Male Breast Cancer - 3 case reports -

Abstract
Breast cancer in men is a rare disease, accunting for approximately 1% of all breast cancers. Three cases of male breast cancer have been seen in the Department of General Surgery, Chonbuk National University Hospital. Herein, we report on these
cases
with a review of the literature.
The overall prognosis of male breast cancer is poor compared to females with breast cancer. This may be related to a delay in diagnosis a difference in regional spread of the tumor.
Increased surveillance of families with a history of male breast cancer and the presence of associated etiologic factors is advisable. Hormone receptor studies of the tumor and the assessment of the hormonal status of the patient will provide
valuable
imformation for treatment.
Although male breast cancer is an infrequently encountered tumor, increased awareness, early diagnosis, the accurate determination of the extent of the disease and hormonal background, and the introduction of an appropriate surgical and adjuvant
therapy
may ensure a prolonged survival or even a definitive recovery.
